Tidesmen Chorus

The Tidesmen of Vancouver Island have been entertaining audiences since 1973 with first class Barbershop Harmony.  We are currently on the road to bigger and better sounds, with a chorus approaching 70 members, and with some younger members actively singing with us.

Our mission statement is:

"The Tidesmen are fun, challenging, and supportive as we strive for excellence in singing and entertainment. Our positive influence is shared with our community through song and service.

We take pride in serving our community.  For many years now we have dedicated a portion of our revenues to supporting the Nanaimo Child Development Centre, and we also perform annually on the CDC’s fund-raising telethon.  We also give music bursaries each year to one or more deserving music students to help fund their further education.  We perform at low or no charge for worthy causes, including retirement homes and charity benefits.

We participate annually in the Evergreen District competition, part of the international  Barbershop Harmony Society's regular chorus contest,  In 2019 we competed on March 16 in Bellingham, Washiington.

Our annual show is held in May at the Port Theatre in downtown Nanaimo.  This year there was one show in 2019, an evening performance on Saturday May 11.

One reason for moving our Port show to May is to allow us time to build our now-traditional Christmas shows.  There will again be two in December 2019, in Nanaimo at the Ecumenical Center and in Parksville at Knox United Church.  More information will be available later in 2019..

We currently have four registered quartets, which is unprecedented in a chorus of our size, and is one reason why the standard of our singing is rising so rapidly.

We welcome enquiries from prospective members, those who wish to join the Friends of the Tidesmen, and those who would like to engage our chorus or one of our quartets to sing at a function.
