On April 27 and 28, 2018, Nanaimo will host the Evergreen District's Division 1 Barbershop contest. This exciting event will bring 250 barbershoppers and their friends from BC and Washington State to our city. On Friday night at the Port Theatre the division's best quartets will compete for the right to attend the District contest later in 2018; on Saturday afternoon the choruses will compete; and on Saturday evening the Show of Champions will feature the best of the weekend's barbershop performances, with special guests as well. And after the Show of Champions there will be a gala reception and "afterglow" at the nearby Dorchester Hotel.
As well as the traditional male-only quartet and chorus contests, we will be inviting mixed quartets and choruses to compete. For information on how to register to compete as a chorus or quartet (mixed or male-only) please click here.
Click here to register for the contest or to buy tickets to the events.
Please note that it takes some time before your payment is actually acknowledged on our site. If you have already paid, ignore any further request for payment in your registration acknowledgement. We will contact you if further action is required.
Hotels: for a list of suitable hotels and motels click here.
All events are open to members of the public. We encourage anyone with an interest in high-quality 'a cappella' singing to come along and enjoy the contests and the show. For tickets to the quartet contest on Friday evening, the Chorus contest on Saturday afternoon, and the Show of Champions on Saturday night, please send an email to
(you can do this by clicking on the link just highlighted). We will get back to you and arrange for you to get tickets. You can also get tickets for the contests by registering for the convention, which will cost you no more money!
All seating for all events - contests and Show of Champions - is open; there are no reserved seats except for handicapped seating.
