ED JOBSON WINS MIKE GIBBS AWARD

Sixty-five year Barbershop Harmony Society member Ed Jobson of Victoria was recently presented with the first ever MIKE GIBBS AWARD by Tidesmen A Cappella Chorus of Nanaimo. Ed is a member of both Victoria and Nanaimo choruses. A grateful Ed commented:  “I am honoured to receive this award. Mike was a great friend and Barbershopper.  We sang together for many years in our quartet, HIGHWAY.  We all loved Mike.  I still miss his wit and humour.”

The award was created by the Tidesmen to commemorate the life and spirit of the late Mike Gibbs who passed away suddenly in 2018.  Mike was a long time Barbershopper who sang with a number of choruses in BC and Alberta.  He was a much loved director of the Tidesmen and credited with reviving and growing the chorus.  One of Mike’s many career highlights was leading a 55 voice Tidesmen Chorus to a silver medal at a 2014 contest.  The Tidesmen plan to present this award annually to someone who exemplifies Mike Gibb’s qualities of humour, and dedication to and love for four-part harmony singing.
